Valve sealing surface

Valve sealing surface

What is a Valve sealing surface?

The valve seals are the key part to determine the valve performance. The factors such as friction, flash, corrosion, oxidation and ECT should be used when selecting the sealing surface materials. Valve seals are divided into 2 categories one is known as soft seal which is also known as rubber that includes fluoro and butane rubber. The other and the second one is hard seal which includes copper alloys and it is used for low pressure valves, nickel base alloys, satellite alloys and chromium stainless steels.

What is the sealing surface of the valve called?

Gasket is the component whose purpose is to seal a joint. It does this between two larger components that are softer than the joint surfaces. They are being sealed and usually they are squeezed by means of boiling so that it affects the seal.

Causes of valve sealing surface damage

Valve sealing surfaces can be damaged by many means such as manmade and natural damage. Man Made damage is done because of the poor design and improper selection of the product. Manufacturing is not refined, installation is not correct and poor maintenance are also the factor of its damage.  Natural damage is also the cause. The valve is the normal work of tear and gear. It is the medium of sealing surface erosion.

Mechanical damage and the sealing surface in the opening and closing over. Production of bumps, crushes and abrasion and other damages. Between the two sealing surfaces and under the action of pressure and temperature of penetration of atoms oozing.

Reason of valve sealing surface damage

Valve sealing surface means the seal portion that is between the closure and seat member. They are man-made and natural damage. The reason for man-made damage is ill design, improper selection, incorrect selection and inadequate maintenance.

The reason for natural damage is under normal bad conditions and environment and other factors. Improper selection and poor maintenance can cause damage. Due to these reasons, a suitable valve is not selected according to the conditions. Installation errors and other maintenance will lead to the sealing surface as it is not working properly and it can damage the sealing surface.

Prevention of valve sealing surface damage

Elimination and prevention method of valve sealing surface leakage are as follows:

When grinding the sealing surface the tools, emery cloth and other objects should use a reasonable grinding method. The sealing surface should be free from cracks, indications and other defects. The bend of the valve should be straight. After the valve stem other parts such as stem nuts and valve seats are adjusted.

The connection between the closing member and the valve stem should meet the requirements. If the top of the valve does not meet the requirement it should be trimmed. The top center should have a few movable clearance and the closing member should be less than 2Mm.

Conclusion

The sealing surface is actually the very critical surface of the valve. The quality of the sealing surfaces is affecting the service life of the valves. The sealing surface is actually a very important factor in making sure to maintain the quality of the sealing surface.
