How to select the type is very important, it needs to be selected according to the characteristics of the medium, temperature, pressure and working conditions.
The specific selection rules are as follows:
1. Pneumatic globe valve should be selected on the pipeline or device of high temperature and high pressure medium. Such as high temperature and high pressure pipelines in thermal power plants and petrochemical systems;
2. The direct-flow globe valve should be used on the pipeline where the convection resistance requirements are not strict;
3. Needle valve, instrument valve, sampling valve, pressure gauge valve, etc. can be used for small pneumatic globe valve;
4. There is flow adjustment or pressure adjustment, but the requirements for adjustment accuracy are not high, and the diameter of the pipeline is relatively small. For example, on the pipeline with a nominal diameter of ≤50mm, it is best to use a pneumatic stop valve and an electric control valve;
5. For the easy-to-solidify crystallization medium, choose a heat preservation globe valve;
6. For ultra-high pressure environments, forged globe valves should be selected;
7. Small fertilizers and large fertilizers in synthetic industrial production should choose high pressure angle globe valve or high pressure angle throttle valve with nominal pressure PN160, nominal pressure 16MPa or PN320 nominal pressure 32MPa;
8. In the desiliconization workshop and the pipelines prone to coking in the alumina Bayer process, it is easy to choose a direct-flow globe valve or a direct-flow throttle valve with a separate valve body, a removable valve seat, and a cemented carbide sealing pair;
9. In the water supply and heating projects in urban construction, the nominal passage is smaller, and the pneumatic shut-off valve, balance valve or plunger valve can be selected, for example, the nominal passage is less than 150mm.
10. It is best to choose imported bellows globe valve for high temperature steam and toxic and harmful media.

The function of the globe valve in the pipeline is to cut off, adjust or throttle. The globe valve is also called the throttle valve. The opening and closing parts of the globe valve, also called the valve disc, move along the center line of the valve seat, and the change of the valve seat port is proportional to the stroke of the valve disc. Compared with the gate valve, the valve stem of the globe valve has a relatively short opening and closing stroke, which is very suitable for installing on the pipeline to regulate the flow.

Its main function is to fully open or fully close, which means to cut off the water source, but with the slow development and improvement of the stop valve, it has also realized the role of adjustment and throttling. Throttling is to seal by twisting the valve stem, applying pressure to the valve disc and preventing the medium from entering through the gap.

Globe valve is mainly composed of valve body, valve cover, valve disc, valve stem, actuator and other important components. The sealing surface materials are body seal, surfacing seal, and PTFE seal (soft seal). The material and structure of the sealing surface are selected according to the medium and pressure of the pipeline. The sealing surface of the globe valve disc adopts conical seal, plane seal and throttling seal. A throttling-off dual-function globe valve developed and produced by Newinteg is designed in a throttling method, which has a closing effect and a throttling adjustment effect. 

How to calculate and determine the size of the globe valve

In order to calculate the size of the valve, parameters related to the operation of the circuit need to be known. Pressure is an important factor that must be taken into account, on the one hand to avoid under-sizing the valve, which would cause problems with valve leakage or rupture, and on the other hand to avoid over-sizing the valve.

The operating temperature, that is, the temperature of the circulating medium and the ambient temperature around the valve body, needs to be determined; it is also necessary to know the extreme temperatures that the valve needs to withstand in order to select a valve that can operate under these conditions, especially for the manufacture of valve bodies, closing systems and The material of the seal should be more cautious.

Globe valve installation and maintenance

1- Before installation, carefully check whether the stop valve mark is in line with the use requirements. And note that the flow direction of the medium can only be consistent with the direction indicated by the arrow on the valve body.

2- Check the stop valve channel and sealing surface before installation. If there is dirt attached, wipe it off with a clean soft cloth.
3- Before installation, check whether the manual device is flexible in operation and whether there is jamming. When installing the globe valve, the globe valve operating mechanism should be about 1.2m away from the operating ground. When the center of the stop valve and the handwheel are more than 1.8m away from the operating ground, an operating platform should be set up for the frequently operated stop valve. For pipelines with many globe valves, the globe valves should be installed on the platform as much as possible for easy operation.
4- For a single globe valve with a height of more than 1.8m and infrequent operation, facilities such as sprockets, extension rods, movable platforms and movable ladders can be used. When the shut-off valve is installed below the operating ground, an extension rod or ground well should be provided. For safety reasons, wells should be covered.
5- For the stop valve on the horizontal pipeline, the valve stem should be vertically upward, and it is not suitable to install the valve stem downward; the valve stem downward is not only inconvenient for operation and maintenance, but also easy to corrode. The installation position of the landing stop valve is inclined, which will also be inconvenient to operate and maintain.
6. The globe valves installed side by side on the pipeline should have space for operation, maintenance, disassembly, and the clear distance between the handwheels should not be less than 100mm; if the distance is narrow, the valves should be staggered.
7. For globe valves with flange end structure, the user should select appropriate studs and gaskets according to the operating temperature, operating pressure, and operating medium, and tighten the studs and nuts symmetrically and evenly. The studs should be full threads and greater than 1 Inch studs should be 8UN series threads. 
8. For the globe valve connected by the butt welding end structure, the user should carry out welding and heat treatment according to the requirements of ASME B31.3. The welding should be carried out by qualified personnel, and the welding can be carried out after the process qualification is qualified. For ASTM A217 WC6 material, it should be preheated before welding, and the preheating temperature is 1490C; after welding, the heat treatment temperature should be 704~7460C, and the holding time should be 2.4min/mm according to the wall thickness of the pipe. For ASTM A217 WC9 material, it should be preheated before welding, and the preheating temperature is 1770C; after welding, the heat treatment temperature should be 704~7600C, and the holding time should be 2.4min/mm according to the wall thickness of the pipe. After installation, the globe valve should be inspected regularly.
The main inspection items are:
1. The wear of the sealing surface of the globe valve.
2. The wear of the trapezoidal thread of the stem and stem nut. 
3. Whether the filler is outdated and invalid, if damaged, it should be replaced in time.
4. After the globe valve is repaired and assembled, the sealing performance test should be carried out. 
1. For the globe valve in operation, all valve parts should be complete and intact.
2. The bolts on the flange and the bracket are indispensable, the threads should be intact, and no loosening is allowed.
3. If the tightening nut on the handwheel is found to be loose, it should be tightened in time to avoid abrasion of the connection or loss of the handwheel and nameplate.
4. If the handwheel of the stop valve is lost, it is not allowed to replace it with a live wrench, and it should be completed in time.
5. The packing gland is not allowed to be skewed or without pre-tightening clearance.
6. For the globe valve in the environment that is easily contaminated by rain, snow, dust, sand and other pollutants, the valve stem should be equipped with a protective cover.
7. The ruler on the globe valve should be kept complete, accurate and clear.
8. The lead seal, cap, and pneumatic accessories of the globe valve should be complete and intact.
9. It is not allowed to knock, stand or support heavy objects on the globe valve in operation, especially non-metallic valves and cast iron valves.
Can the globe valve be installed horizontally?
Globe valves can only be installed and operated in the vertical position. Manual globe valves must always be fully open or fully closed when installed and are not designed or designed for throttling applications.  Always follow standard safety procedures when operating the valve. Globe valves should normally be installed at the inlet below the valve seat. For severe throttling service, the valve can be installed so that flow enters from the top of the seat and flows down.
1. The fluorine-lined globe valve is suitable for various concentrations of aqua regia, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid and various organic acids, strong acids and strong oxidants at -50 ~ 150 ℃, and also suitable for various concentrations of strong alkali organic solvents As well as other corrosive gases and liquid medium pipelines.
2. The national standard globe valve is the most commonly used product in the globe valve series. API American standard globe valve American standard globe valve implements ANSI and API standards. The sealing surfaces of the disc and valve seat are made of Stellite cobalt base with different hardness. Carbide surfacing welding, reliable sealing, high hardness, wear resistance, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, good scratch resistance, long life.
3. Needle valve is a small-diameter instrument valve, which plays the role of opening and closing and accurate flow control in the instrument measurement pipeline system, mainly including power station instrument series, oil field special series, American standard series, etc.
4. Cryogenic globe valve usually refers to the valve whose working temperature is lower than – 110℃, which is widely used in liquefied natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas and other low temperature industries. Since 2008, the globe valve can be manufactured with a suitable temperature of -196℃, and all parts are pretreated with liquid nitrogen at low temperature, which completely avoids seal deformation and leakage during use.

Globe valve, also known as cut-off valve, is a kind of forced-sealing valve, which is a kind of cut-off valve. According to the connection method, it is divided into three types: flange connection, thread connection and welding connection. my country’s valve “Three Chemicals” once stipulated that the flow direction of the globe valve shall be from top to bottom, so there is directionality during installation.
When the water is at the valve port, as long as the support bar is lightly loosened, the water will go out. If it is installed backwards, the water will hold the valve, the support bar will become a pull bar, and the water will hold the door with great force. The pull point or lever is broken and the water gate will never open. So don’t go in the wrong direction when installing the globe valve.
The globe valve is designed with low in and high out, the purpose is to make the flow resistance small and save effort when opening the valve. At the same time, when the valve is closed, the gasket between the valve shell and the valve cover and the packing around the valve stem are not stressed, so that they will not be affected by the medium pressure and temperature for a long time, which can prolong the service life and reduce the probability of leakage. Globe valve types

There are many types of globe valves.

There is a flow channel inside the three-way globe valve, which is a feature that other valves do not have. This also makes the three-way globe valve have its own unique characteristics. The biggest feature of the three-way globe valve is that it can change the flow direction of the medium . The design of the flow port is to achieve this effect. When using a three-way stop valve, as long as the switch of the valve is flipped, the flow port can be opened, preventing the flow of the medium, and then increasing the pressure inside the valve, opening the flow port again. When the pressure is increased, the medium in the valve can flow in the reverse direction to achieve the desired effect of the user. This is a feature that other valves do not have, which makes it suitable for both large-scale industrial production sectors and ordinary household use.
1. Compared with the butterfly valve, the regulating performance of the globe valve is better, but the regulating performance of the butterfly valve is poor, and it is generally used in occasions where only switching is required.
2. On the other hand, the globe valve is more expensive than the butterfly valve.

Compared with the gate valve, the globe valve has the advantages of simple structure, convenient manufacture and maintenance, good adjustment performance, and is widely used in the transportation pipeline of various media. However, when the fluid passes through the shut-off valve, the direction changes, so the resistance is relatively large, and it is not suitable for pipelines with high viscosity, suspended substances and easy-to-crystallize materials, nor for venting valves and low-vacuum system valves. Globe valves are widely used in various pressurized fluid pipelines and are also commonly used in steam and compressed air pipelines. Globe valve is a commonly used shut-off valve, which is mainly used to connect or cut off the medium in the pipeline, and is generally not used to adjust the flow. 4. Butterfly valve: Butterfly valve, also called flap valve, is a kind of regulating valve with simple structure. The structure is different
The structure of the gate valve will be more complicated than that of the globe valve. Under the same caliber, the gate valve is taller than the globe valve, and the globe valve is longer than the gate valve; the gate valve has an open rod and a dark rod, but the globe valve does not.
The working principle is different
When the globe valve is opened and closed, it is of a rising valve stem type. When the handwheel is turned, the handwheel will rotate and lift together with the valve stem; while the gate valve rotates the handwheel to make the valve stem move up and down, and the position of the handwheel itself is not the same. Change.
The installation flow is different
The gate valve has the same effect in both directions. There is no requirement for the direction of the inlet and outlet for installation. The globe valve needs to be installed in strict accordance with the direction marked by the arrow on the valve body.

To consider the temperature, if the temperature does not exceed 420 degrees, you can choose a gate valve, a globe valve or a metal hard-sealed butterfly valve; if the temperature is above 400 degrees, you can choose an alloy valve. If it is used as the main valve and does not need to be switched frequently, the gate valve can be the first choice; if it is installed near the equipment, the globe valve must be selected, which can adjust the air flow.

The advantages of globe valve

  • Compared with the gate valve, the structure of the globe valve is simpler, and the manufacture and maintenance are more convenient.
  • The sealing surface is not easy to be worn and scratched, with good sealing performance and long service life.
  • When opening and closing, the valve flap travel is small, the opening and closing time is short, and the valve height is small.
The disadvantages of the globe valve
  • The fluid resistance is large. The medium channel in the valve body is tortuous, so the energy consumption is large. However, the fluid resistance of the DC globe valve is relatively small.
  • The opening and closing torque is large, and the opening and closing is more laborious. When closing, because the movement direction of the valve flap is generally opposite to the direction of the medium pressure, the force of the medium must be overcome, so the opening and closing torque is large. Medium and high pressure globe valves with larger diameters can adopt a balanced structure to reduce the opening and closing torque.
  • The flow direction of the medium is restricted. Generally, the medium is required to flow from bottom to top.
Just look at the markings on the drive for the electric and pneumatic ones, while the manual ones have to switch in the direction of the switch. As long as half a turn to open, one turn to close, if all can move, it is in the open state, if it does not turn on, it is in the fully open state, if it is closed to half a circle, it is in the fully closed state, and if it is more than half a circle, it is about to be fully closed.
How many turns does it take to open a globe valve?
Only a quarter-turn (90 degrees) is needed to open or close it—much faster than turning a handwheel multiple times. 
Globe valves are good for regulating flow, whereas ball valves are better for on/off control without pressure drop. For decades globe valves were considered the industry standard in control valves. They are designed with a stem that moves up and down inside the valve to control flow.
